YUI datatable sortable

I am using the datatable with scrollbars. I use a routine to set the width of the table what is a little bit tricky.
When I have only a couple of rows in the table there is no vertical scrollbar and the width of the datatable should ba a bit smaller.
How can I detect if there are scrollbars to calculate the width of table. Now I have an ugly white space next to the column (only one column in this test)

I'm afraid that is a known bug and not easy to fix and, thus, it remains unsolved. Since the YUI2 code line is frozen, no solution can be expected.
