Using YUI with the Eclipse IDE

Hi all,

I have always used Dreamweaver for development, but after a year or so of developing projects with the verbose YUI, I find myself longing for an IDE that auto-completes/suggests/etc.

After asking around on a few forums, Eclipse was the most recommended. I have not been able to find much information on teaching Eclipse to understand YUI, however. This is all I could find on the subject:

http://www.nabble.com/YUI-with-Eclipse- ... ag15641144

Does anyone have some experience with this? Any insight is much appreciated.

I also found this:

http://www.eclipseplugincentral.com/Web ... -1339.html

Which seems to do it for you, but was written for 2.6.0. Could this be a problem when used with 2.7.0 or 2.8.0?

Thanks!

Normally, Aptana keeps the latest version of YUI within the list of supported libraries, in term of documentation and IDE integration. You can also use Aptana as a plugin for Eclipse. Also, you can use EGit plugin to connect directly to GITHUB to keep your repo updated, commit and pull a request from time to time :-) for those who want to collaborate.

Hey Lou,

EGit is another eclipse plugin, it's free. You can get more info here:
http://egit.googlecode.com/

It's similar to Subversive (Eclipse SVN plugins) to handle a repository from eclipse, in this case a GIT repo.

YUI Repo is here:
http://github.com/yui

And using this plugin and github you can contribute to the project easily. I found this specially useful for developers that are used to Eclipse and don't want to use the command line for git.

Best Regards,
Caridy

Thank you so much for all the info!

So I downloaded Eclipse (which didn't have an installation, it just runs - is that correct behavior?), then tried to install Aptana as a plugin. Unfortunately, Eclipse will not let me accept the license agreements for the Aptana installation.

I have not been able to find any information about this issue. I have opened a support "discussion" with Aptana, but I figured I'd ask about here as well. Here's a screenshot of the problem:

Any ideas? Thanks!

I was able to get around the problem, and was able to reproduce the problem 100% by following the installation instructions directly from Aptana:

http://update15.aptana.org/studio/26124/index.html

After step 3, if you click back, the "Finish" button from step 3 is no longer grayed out, and continues the installation process. Bizarre.
