2.8.2 backwards compatibility

Hi,

Please bear with me since this is my first visit to the forum. I did do a search on my question, but didn't get any results.

We currently have a web application with portions of YUI version 2.3.0.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any backwards compatibility issues between versions 2.3.0 and 2.8.2?
Or could I just replace the path to the YUI files?

Thanks!

Johan

Hello Johan.

Usually there is a backward compatibility, but the jump to 2.8.2 from 2.3.0 is not short: a few changes was committed.

However it depends on which widgets you have been using.

Your unit tests should provide you an overview about the problems.

Maybe you might post any issue you find, if you cannot fix it.

Regards,
Alberto

The dependency tree is probably different, so use the configurator to generate your new script urls:

http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/articles/hosting/

Plug in the new version and see if anything breaks. If it does break, you will need to look at the documentation pages for the components you are using. Any major changes to the API should be listed there. Each component has a readme file in its src directory that has all of the changes for the component that occurred since 2.3.0.

Thanks for the help guys!

I am mainly using these YUI js-files: menu.js, treeview.js, dragdrop.js and slider.js.

I think I'll just with Adams suggestion and plug it in and deal with any errors that come up.
After all, the use of YUI in my application is not yet very extensive and I guess I will be able
to cope with the errors.

Great info on the readme files, it didn't even occur to med that I should have a look there! ;-)
