The rich text editor creates an emply link on dialog cancel button, replication steps:

1. Type a word in editor
2. Highlight the word and click on the link button
3. Click on cancel

The hightlighted word ends up being linked <a>word</a>

Is this a bug or some sort of a config option,

Sure, to recreate follow these steps:

1. Go to http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/examples ... ditor.html
2. Highlight a line of text
3. Under insert item, click on the html link button
4. On the dialog pop-up (where you are asked to enter the url), click the cancel buton
