YUI2 components

Hi,

I'm wondering what'll happen to the old YUI 2 components, such as the ColorPicker and ImageCropper, in YUI 3. Will they be "official" plugins, left for others to port, or are they waiting to be implemented in the "core"?

Jacob,

We'll work to port over the widgets in priority order -- so, Overlays, Tabs, Tables, Editor, Calendar, Menu Navigation, and so on are at the top of the list -- but we're also expecting to see some ports come from external contribution. Once Slider is done, Color Picker is an ideal candidate for that; ImageCropper is also a good candidate, and work could proceed on that as soon as we get 3.1.0 out the door with the widget foundation.

Were you interested in working on some of these components?

Ok! I mainly wondered (and feared) that there was some new philosophy behind 3 not to include widgets...

Sorry, no, I won't have time (nor competence, probably) for that. But I might contribute with some suggestions for improvements to the UI and code later, as I progress with my implementation of them with YUI2.

Jacob,

No, no new philosophy -- just doing things one step at a time. We're working on the widget system and we're looking forward to rolling out the core widget set for YUI 3.
