Help needed on Polling mechanism for table

Hello,

I have generally web pages with more than one table & all of them are polling in about 500ms.

When the network latency is more then this is causing all the json-rpc calls to take more time to come back from the server.

Can someone please refer some link /ideas on how to go about the this polling mechanism?
Someone please suggest how to implement polling in better way?
please give your suggestions.
