The YUI 2 Editor is in maintenance mode and no further releases are planned at this time. We are totally focused on the YUI 3 code base.

Making it work in major browsers (Grade A in your parlance) certainly should be part of maintance mode. Otherwise it is a neglect mode.

I disagree. YUI 2 is basically obsolete. Go on bite the bullet and convert it to YUI 3. You'll never look back. Only thing is, that the editor is also not available yet in YUI 3. This I would agree is a major booboo which is hurting us all.

I have a lot of projects in YUI2. Converting them cannot be done by waving a magic stick.
That was one of the reasons I went with YUI - I thought the YAHOO behind it guarantees some stability.

Alright, fair enough. Converting to YUI 3 is not as dramatic as it seems though. Once you go through the initial learning curve. But I can see that you would want things to basically keep working at least.

Marc --

The Editor is available in YUI3, in fact it's used in production right now in the new Yahoo Mail. It's very very usable, you just have to skin it ;)

Yes, exactly. And chrome is now major browser - I cannot just tell my users not to use it.

We can't afford to spend our time going back to old projects and updating them for browsers that didn't exist when that product was made. I understand that you think we should, but it's just not maintainable.

We are 100% focused on bringing everything we can to YUI 3, which in turn means that we can't drop our current path to go back to 3+ year old code and retro fit it to work with browsers that didn't exist then.

One of the reasons we placed the code on Github is so that the community can maintain the code for forward compatibility. If you feel you want to fix the issue, go right ahead and submit a pull request. They will not be denied. But there is no guarantee that we will ever put out another YUI 2 release with it.
